Dear Okedenbay,
Your halter saved my horses life today and my 10 year old son. My son was sitting by our horse who was hitched to the hitching post. He was standing next to another horse who decided to kick our horse. My horse tried to round the post to get out of the line of the kick but my son was sitting there. Instead my horse went down his head almost ended up under the post and his head twisted but the halter broke away before he could have broken his neck. He jumped up and just ran to a safe area and waited until we could put the halter back on him. If not for your break away halter I know he would have been severely hurt or died. I am so pleased with your product, I just ordered another one.
Thank you again,
Johanna M Barnes

The Okeden Bay Horse Halter is ideal for doing routine dental work on the sedated horse. It comes apart easily and works nicely with the mouth gag. The halter is comfortable for both the attending Veterinarian and the horse.

Santa was kind enough to deliver an Okedenbay halter this Christmas. We are very impressed with the quality, looks and fit. Normally we do not halter our horse during turnout, however this winter has been an exception. There has been a significant amount of snow this winter, without the usual thaw. As the snow continues our fencing is disappearing. These circumstances have required us to use a halter on a daily basis, just in case, and we are thrilled with the results!

It is very easy to put on with cold fingers, leaves no wear marks on the mare's head and the deer skin remains soft even through the freeze- thaw cycle. Having had a scary incidence years ago we chose to not halter our horses without supervision. The release system of this halter has addressed our concerns and we feel comfortable using it during turnout. This is an outstanding product and the timing could not have been better! Thanks! Great website too!

I've been around horses all of my life. I even remember the first time I fell off when I was five-years-old. I slid very slowly off a pony named "Timmy" who was at a, not so brisk, walk. I landed in a pile of thistles. And I've fallen off many times since then.
It was during my time in the local Pony Club that I first got involved with the halter safety debate. As most readers on your website may know the Pony Club was started in Britian to teach kids not only how to ride but proper horse care. And they are very particular.
I was a member of our club's team for a rally held somewhere northwest of Toronto. Much like a three day event with dressage, cross country and stadium jumping, Pony Club rallies had the added stress of officials going around and testing your team's horse care knowledge as well. You never knew when they were going to come by or what questions they were going to ask. All I can say is you didn't want to be the one with a spec of dirt on your tack, or a sweat mark on your horse when they showed up.
Our team decided by consensus that it was best not to leave the horses' halters on while they were in their stalls. We concluded that the risk of a horse getting an injury because of having the halter on was greater than the risk of a fire, which was the argument for keeping the halters on. Well we ended up losing points for our decision as the officials didn't agree with us. But a future tragedy would prove to me our team was right.
A few years later I was boarding my Anglo Arabian mare and had been away for the weekend. I returned to a call that my horse was dead. She had got her foot caught in her halter while she was rolling in her stall. By the time the vet got there it was too late to save her.
My mare died more than twenty years ago and since then I had only purchased leather halters. But when I saw the Okedenbay halters I decided to give them a try. So far so good. Although I haven't had any incidents, I feel comfortable using them particularly in the cross ties and, if the situation warrants that I have to leave the halter on for turnout, then I am comfortable doing so.
Sincerely,
Cindy Duffy

| I have owned horses for 11 years, and due to my job, have moved quite a bit. I have heard the horror stories of trailering accidents and halters that strangled horses. This last move was far and was an 8 hour trailer ride for the herd. Thanks to the Okeden Bay halters quick release system, I had peace of mind while my precious herd travelled to their new home. The halters also brought peace of mind while my horses explored their new fields, knowing that they would be safe.
Thank you for making halters that are safe, no matter what the circumstance.

| The Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society has been thrilled with the Okeden Bay halters that you so generously donated. We have all of our foster horses using the halters and it is such a relief to know that they are in halters that make them more visible when it gets dark and that if they ever got themselves caught up on something, that the halters will just release allowing them to safely get loose. They fit beautifully and are so comfortable for them. I would highly recommend them throughout the Standardbred Industry. |

My wife bought me these halters to use on my Canadian Horse teams. I was skeptical at first, but now I'am "sold". They're great for trailering. I don't worry about how I'd get my horses out in a trailer accident and as I stable my horses in standing stalls I can leave them tied at night knowing they can free theselves if they ever really needed to . I almost lost my best mare one night when the old halter she had on got stuck on her manger. She was down all night and was in real trouble when I got to the barn the next morning- Wouldn't have happened if I'd had the Okeden Bay halter on her then. They'r super at shows too. Changing harness between events is so much quicker as I can remove the halters from under the bridles.
I've been a teamster a long time. I'll was 81 this year and this is the best thing I've seen come along in years. Even an old teamster can learn a new trick and now, I wouldn't use any other halter on my horses.

I received the halter a few days back and have been using it on Julian. It has been working great. I told you on the phone when we spoke that he is missing the part of his eyelid that his eyelashes are attached to ( or should I say were attached to !) due to a stall injury.
There are NO sharp edges on the halter for Julian to catch his eye on. 2 months ago he jerked his head and managed to ulcerate his eyeball while one of the barn help was taking off his old halter. His eye closes all the way but not quite as fast as it used to.
I am sure your're starting to get the idea now that Julian finds ways that the average horse doesn't think of to put himself in peril and I think we found a halter that is as we say at the stable " Julian proof" !.
Thank you again for making a great and safe halter . I have one less thing to worry about.

Dear Okeden Bay,
I am so impressed with my new Okeden Bay saftey halter . It is everything I was looking for and more. First, it is easily the nicest looking horse halter I have ever laid eyes on. The high quality is evident overall--lightweight, beautifully lined, well constructed, and durable. Thanks to the multiple adjustment points, I can create a good fit for my young Percheron gelding, who tends to fall in between standard halter sizes. The release points work perfectly. When a jealous pasture buddy gave the halter a good yank, it came off without injury to my horse or damage to the hardware. Thank you so much for making a safe and exceptional halter. Romeo and I will use the Okeden Bay halter for many years to come !

I have been riding and training horses for most of my life. As a trainer I have trained horses to the championship level in Class A shows and have many wins in the Regional level. I have also bred many horses that have won at the National level. I have used the Okeden Bay halter continuously since about July of 2004. The four points of attachment allow a bridle to be put on a horse right over the halter, and then the halter taken off from under the bridle. This alows me to continuously maintain control of the horse. No other halter exists where you can do this.
The horse halter is adjustable to differant horses, well beyond the range of other horse halters. The halter will release at any of the four differant points depending on where the horse might be caught. An incident where this worked for me was when the horse stepped on a lunge line ( after several bucks and rears) attached to the halter under its chin, the halter released over the poll. After the halter releases you just put it back on , no repairs.

We love the two release halters we bought at the Equine Affaire in Columbus, OH. They fit the horses faces " like a glove" . They seem very functional, even thought my husband took a couple of days to get used to the velcor. Once the halter is fitted to the horse, it is easy to just undo one strap and put it on. I haven't washed one yet, but one did get wet in the rain the other day. When it dried it was as soft as before.

Thank you for making this wonderful horse halter and bringing it to my attention.
We have a herd of 30 polo ponies some are Argentine thoroughbreds and some American thoroughbreds and some are registered Paints all are very valuable.
It takes years of work to make a top horse and we have done this. Until your halter came along I would turn my horses out without halters because I lived in fear that they would get hung up in fencing or hay feeders and this also brought another very real problem what if they got out on the road by accident that strangers could not catch them.
I would leave them in stalls without halters because they could strangle in the stall. I heard of a racehorse doing exactly that when I was a girl. This also brought the very real problem that if there was a fire I could not get them out fast enough to save them.
I would trailer them with leads tied too high because they could strangle by getting a leg over a loser lead. I would not be aware while I was driving.
All of these issues have been solved with this wonderful halter. I have used Okeden Bay Release Halters for three years now. They work. They are durable. This halter has been a blessing to our farm.
One of the other uses I have found is when we tack up 20 ponies to play Chukkas at the polo fields, we can now tie them to the hitching rails and they are safe. Even if there is one that pulls too hard he does not take the rail and the rest of the ponies with him.
Our farm has been given the highest award possible by ARE Ontario. We passed the all-over safety test that Accredited Riding Establishment of Ontario requires for you to belong to them. They said our farm is the safest place for a horse and rider. We are proud of this.

I found out about the Okeden Bay release Halter from my wife, Jennifer, who during our attendance at the CanAm Show in London, Ontario, saw the product up front and personal. She described to me the design and it's unique "release" features. She was very impressed with the quality of product used and that it is the only halter she saw with safety reflective features.
Given that I will be travelling back roads, highways, trails, through towns/cities, it is very important that I am highly visible and in control of my horse all the time. This means while riding but also when I dismount, I won't have the time or the proper atmosphere to take off a headstall in order to put his halter on and walk him when necessary.
|
 |
 |
|
This is where the benefit of the Okeden Bay breakaway Halter comes in. I can leave the halter on all the time, under the reins and Cody doesn't mind at all. This gives me peace of mind knowing that whether I'm walking or riding, I have it there as an option. Also, since Cody is "head shy", having the halter on spares Cody having his ears/face touched so often.
In terms of longing and ground work, using the Okeden Bay horse Halter is a real pleasure. The pressure points are still there in order to communicate with Cody but because of the design, it doesn't create undue discomfort or over-pressure. As a result, I have a more willing and co-operative horse, getting the messages I am conveying with less pressure than a conventional halter. Cody as a result, has become lighter on the longe line. Most importantly, when I am working with Cody on the longe line, the halter doesn't release.
|
 |
Lastly, the Halter itself, is a true custom fit. Given Cody's head size is larger than average, I could adjust the halter so that it fits him perfectly.
Overall, I am very impressed with the Okeden Bay Halter and I will be giving further feedback during the 4,000 mile trek across the country in the event that Cody needs to "break away" for a bear in the woods!!!!
